Chambray Dobbies McCall's 6044

Here's Tim wearing his Christmas present! I gave it to him early because I can't keep a secret.

The pattern is my go-to buttondown pattern for Tim, McCall's 6044. This is the 4th time I made it; can't go wrong! I made my usual fit changes (L at the shoulders, between M and L from the armpits down).

At some point I should probably branch out and try some other shirt patterns... on the other hand why stray from the tried and true?

The fabric is Kaufman chambray dobbies that I bought at Grey's Fabric when I was in Boston last month, picked out with the help of the lovely Ashley, of Katy and Laney fame.

I love the little dobbies, although this chambray is a bit thicker/stiffer than others I've used. I'm hoping it'll soften up with a few wears and washes. But that certainly made it easy to sew!

I changed up the method I used for the collar, using the Four Square Walls method, plus a glue stick. Hallelujah! Best collar I've done.

I also used the glue stick for the cuffs, to excellent results. The cute striped-edge buttons are from Chatuchak market here in Bangkok. It's like they were made for this shirt:

He likes it and I think it looks pretty slick... perfect for the business-casual office.

Speaking of the office, for those of you who like to see "in the wild" shots (hi, Colleen!), here's a semi-wild version of Tim wearing the shirt while working (albeit at our kitchen table).

Bonus working-by-the-Christmas-tree shot:

Merry Christmas!!
