Cowl Neck Groove Dress

For my niece's birthday in August, I made her a beautiful green floral Groove dress... my fourth version of the MadeIt Patterns Groove dress for kids (I've also made 3 of the adult version!).

I made it from the softest Art Gallery Fabrics knit ever in a beautiful green with pink, orange and magenta flowers (I'm not sure my photos are doing the colors justice). I had originally bought the fabric to make myself something, but then decided it was just over the girly/twee line for me. This lucky kid gets to wear this delightfully squishy fabric instead of me!

I sewed the Groove Dress with the fun high/low hemline, long sleeves and the cowl neck for the colder months. My niece turned 5 in August, but I believe I sewed her a size 6, figuring she might get two years' wear out of it, so it's a little bit on the big side right now.

You'll notice from the photo above that I didn't enclose the collar/neckline seam as instructed in the pattern because, well, I'm lazy. Serge and press, folks!

My mom took some photos for me right away back in August, but had trouble getting any that were clear and didn't have a silly face:

She took some more last week, in autumn weather more appropriate for the long sleeved, cowl neck dress, but this time got some hilariously skeptical and reluctant looks from Miss Zoe, who now has bangs:

Doesn't this look below just scream, "Are you kidding me with these blog photos?"
Hahahaha!:

My mom also happened to capture the mailman coming up the driveway in these shots. I am sure he is delighted to have his 15 minutes of sewing blog fame:

Hopefully Zoe likes her dress! I'm very jealous that she gets to snuggle herself in all that soft knit...
