Combine Sew Twists and Ties with Other Sewing Challenges

So, as usual, there are many sewing challenges going on during the month of January. I wanted to give you some ideas about how you might combine some of the challenges out there with #SewTwistsandTies. There are lots of ways to sew up a project that meets the requirements of multiple pattern challenges!

This is obviously not an exhaustive list of challenges or patterns; I'm sure there are many more options out there. Be sure to peruse my Sew Twists and Ties Pinterest board for more ideas!

Sew Fancy Pants

#SewFancyPants, hosted by Nicole, Katie, Sierra, Brad and Rumana, is focused on pants/trousers sewing and is always a ton of fun!

So many #SewTwistsandTies options here! You could go tie-waist:

You might try wrap-style pants with a tie, or trousers with ties at the ankle, knee or hip:

Or combine challenges with a tie-waist jumpsuit or tie-strap overalls:

Sew Your Books

#SewYourBooks is a fun challenge hosted by Wilma and Kate. Its goal is to get you to pull your sewing books off the shelf and sew from them! Lots of book patterns feature twists and ties!

Just want to put this out there so you can start planning for this challenge! @timetosew and I will host a sewing challenge this January to get us all (including ourselves) sewing from our pattern books. Over the years I have accumulated a lot of pattern books. They’re good value for money and often you’ll find something of a collection of patterns that go great together. Every book I have bought made me think I would make almost everything in it and most of the time I still felt that way after making the first garment. I promised myself I would make every pattern from the Colette Sewing book and then I promised myself I would make every dress from Gertie’s Ultimate dresses book and I actually made quite a few from Tilly’s Stretch! book, until the next pattern came along and I forgot all about my books. So because of that we came up with this little challenge to use our sewing books this January. There will be more information coming soon, though all you need to know to get started is that you can use any sewing book you want and make anything you want. We hope a lot of you will join us and show some love to the books in our sewing rooms! . . . . #sewingchallenge #sewyourbooks #tracethatpattern #sewcialists #sewingpatterns #sewingbook #sewingbooks #makeitsewcial @sewcialevents

Named Clothing's Breaking the Pattern book has several twist and tie patterns, including the Ruska knot dress and the Solina dress:

Burdastyle Full-Figured Fashion book has a couple fun tie patterns, including these (thank you to Sew Well for the photos of the inside of the book!):

Sew Japanese in January

#SewJapaneseinJanuary, hosted by the lovely Anna and Jane, is a wide-open community challenge focused on sewing from your Japanese sewing books or Japanese fabric stash!

Here are some ideas that connect it to #SewTwistsandTies (although it obviously overlaps with #SewYourBooks, too!), but check out Japanese Sewing Books for more ideas!:

Sew Suit Up

This fun challenge, #SewSuitUp, hosted by Andrea and Teameaka, is focused on encouraging folks to custom make their own designer suit and start the New Year with a fresh and classy look.

I haven't seen a ton of blazer patterns that include a twist, but there are lots of pants and skirt options that overlap with #SewTwistsandTies there are a couple tie-waist suits out there, including Vogue 1590 and Butterick 6638
