Corduroy Florence Pants

Elastic waist wide leg corduroy pants... je ne sais quoi cool or dorky '80s mistake?

I'll be honest: I don't care either way, because these are so comfortable!

I've had a piece of corduroy in my stash for a while now, some gorgeous medium-weight navy stretch Ralph Lauren goodness from The Smuggler's Daughter. Perfect fall/winter fabric...

For this fabric, I considered several pants patterns in my stash, many of which were traditional zip fly and button pants.  

But I ultimately landed on making pants with an elastic waistband. Let's be honest, and I don't think I'm alone here: I just cannot tolerate non-elastic waists these days...

I've really enjoyed wearing my Elizabeth Suzann Florence pants over the past few months, so I threw caution to the wind and decided to make another pair with my corduroy.

Although I thought perhaps my summer Florence pants were a smidge tight in the stomach, I decided that I would make the same size because of the stretch factor in my corduroy. 

Yes, I probably still need a full belly adjustment on these, but I can't be bothered.

The only change I made was to take a smaller hem than I did for my summer Florence pants. There is a 2 3/8" hem allowance, but I think I ended up taking 1 1/2" for these, to make sure my ankles were covered. 

You have to be careful with the length of wide legged pants in New England winter. They can't be too long or they'll dip in the snow and slush!

I was a little concerned this project wouldn't work out, but I'm pretty happy with it in the end! Super comfy. Basically my only requirement these days.
