Willamette Wednesday

It's Hey June June and I am so happy to be sharing this Willamette shirt for the final #WillametteWednesday of the month!

So many inspiring makers with so many inspiring Hey June projects... Definitely have a peek at the #HeyJuneJune19 hashtag for inspiration and to maybe win some goodies! There are also still a few days left to enter the grand prize contests... head over to Loni's blog for more on how to enter. Finally, pop by the Hey June Facebook group for yet another chance to win a prize.

This my third Willamette shirt (does that give me a #HeyJuneTrifecta?!), and maybe my favorite so far! Both of my previous versions have been made from slightly stiffer fabric (cotton/linen and cotton lawn), so I was itching to make a version with a bit of drape.

The fabric I pulled from my stash for this project is a lovely Kokka lyocell double gauze, originally purchased from the Imagine Gnats shop a couple years back. The lyocell gives it a gorgeous drape, and it's double gauze, so it's obviously super soft, too. A hint of shiftiness when sewing and pressing, but worth it! Plus that golden/chartreuse color and the watercolor-y print are amazing.

For this Willamette, I made the same size and cut as my last couple:16 graded to an 18 hip, View A. If it ain't broke...

I sewed these coordinating grey buttons right through both plackets without sewing buttonholes. You can easily pull the Willamette over your head, so buttonholes aren't necessary. And I am lazy.

This was my first sewing project in my new sewing space, and it was a great way to christen the space. We moved apartments this month and things have been a little hectic, so it felt really good to work on a familiar, TNT-type project to get used to the set-up.

On a related note: it also felt good to use long-hoarded stash fabric for this Willamette. After moving, and being exhausted from the associated packing, lifting and unpacking of my large fabric stash, I am thinking of committing to some sort of 1-in, 3-out stashbusting effort.

I realize going cold turkey on new fabric acquisitions is not realistic for me, but maybe a ratio of more outs than ins could work. I'm considering playing around with Sewjourner's Stash Shrinker spreadsheet to see how it goes! Also, I hear a rumor that Heather of Heather and the Pugs is going to be running a little stash reduction effort this summer, so hopefully that will keep me accountable!

Anyway, back to my Willamette: I love it and will wear it all the time! Happy Hey June June!

Thanks for having me, Audrey, Emily, Jen, and Loni!
