Alex Apron for Tim

Tim has really stepped up his cooking game during the pandemic... previously he was a dish duty guy who dabbled in pancake flipping, now he's a gourmet chef, cooking up beef bourguinon ala Julia Child on the weekend and spicy pork noodles on weeknights. 

I decided he needed his own apron now that he's bringing his A-game to the kitchen. 

As much as I secretly love watching him struggle with figuring out how to don the mobius strip that is my Helen's Closet York apron, it doesn't really fit him well in the chest, and I knew he would be more comfortable with a traditional tie waist apron. 

Enter the Seamwork Alex apron pattern...

I love that the Alex apron is a classic, utilitarian design and comes in a wide variety of sizes (XS-3XL) rather than the one-size-fits-all many other apron patterns have... For Tim's Alex, I went with size XL.

The Alex has a large front patch pocket, adjustable neck strap with D-rings, and extra long ties at the waist so you can wrap them around to the front rather than struggling to tie them behind your back. 

I cut the pocket on the cross grain for some visual interest with the stripes. I also sewed a line of stitching up the center of the pocket to create two sections- it seemed a little shallow and wide otherwise.

The fabric I used for this apron is actually an old cotton curtain panel that had a small bleach stain on it that I was able to cut around. It's not actually MY curtain, and I have no idea how it ended up in my stash, but it was the perfect weight for a sturdy, utilitarian apron.
