Sew Twists and Ties: Style Arc Sadie

In an uncharacteristic move, I've made a bright pink garment!

This is my last Sew Twists and Ties project of the challenge: the Style Arc Sadie Tunic. I've had this pattern printed, prepped and ready to go since last year, but agonized over fabric choice for weeks and weeks, vacillating between several options in my stash...

Ultimately I landed on this super hot pink Nicole Miller lyocell fabric that I had reams of in my stash. I'd purchased it on clearance at Joann a couple summers back, having loved working with the black colorway I'd used for my Arenite pants. The hot pink wouldn't typically be a top color choice for me, but it was fun and super cheap, and the fabric quality is fabulous.

The hot pink fabric seemed right for this project, weight- and drape-wise, and I was in need of a bright, cheery sew after making a series of black and grey garments recently. Plus: maybe it's an early entry for #SewHappyColor?

Back to the Sadie: I just adore the cool twisted sleeves on this pattern. I wasn't entirely sold on the tunic length and hemline, though. I often find tunics sound nice in theory, but don't look or feel great on me in practice. Be a shirt or be a dress, tunics!

This is a size 18 Sadie, which has a boat neck, faced, rounded, split hem, and angled bust darts.

But I forged ahead with the tunic length Sadie anyway. Sure enough, during a mid-sew try-on, I decided the tunic length was not for me. Too much length, too much pink, just too much. I lopped 5" off the bottom and then hemmed up 3/4" for a high-hip, semi-cropped look. I love it! I think the proportions are much better for me.

The other construction change I made was to skip the back neck split and button loop. I find them fiddly to sew and wear, so I avoid them if possible. I double-checked with Nancy since she'd made so many Sadies, and she confirmed it would fit overhead without the closure.
(Sorry, totally forgot to take a photo of the back of the top!)

I really like my crazy pink blouse! The Sadie pattern's twisted sleeves were a fun little challenge: they look like a two-piece sleeve, but they're really one crazy piece that gets twisted back on itself. I got the first one immediately, but for some reason it took me 5 or 6 times to get the twist right on the second sleeve. I have no explanation for that..

I paired my Sadie here with my linen Ninni culottes, but I am thinking it will be cute with jeans, high-waisted slim pants, and a high-waisted pencil skirt, too. It's also going to have to wait for spring and summer, because it is not appropriate for Vermont winter. It was 7F outside when I took these photos, and I'm pretty sure I have frostbite on my fingers and toes now!
