Matchy Matchy Craft Studio Tee Two Ways

A bit of a palette cleanser after a couple complicated projects...

I was looking for a simple project after my last few (my Drafter's Grid Dress and the Harlequin dress I made my niece) were a bit more complicated. The (free if you sign up for their newsletter!) Matchy Matchy Sewing Club Craft Studio Tee was pretty perfect for that purpose.

The Craft Studio Tee is an oversized, wide boxy fit woven top with a slightly cropped length, slightly boat neckline and sleeves that hit above the wrist. It has center front and back seams.

Size-wise, the Craft Studio Tee is designed for bust sizes 31 - 64 inches. I made a size 2XL, which worked well. Pleasantly oversized.

My first I made from a cotton batik from my stash with a lovely diagonal stripe design that was looking for a simple pattern like this one.

I skipped the center front and back seams for this print to avoid stripe matching to the greatest extent possible. It turned out super cute!

My second Craft Studio Tee was made from a lovely, breezy cotton/linen blend yarn-dyed stripe fabric from Stash, called Hard to Say I'm Sorry. The fabric was part of Stash's summer collection from last year, Yacht Rock, a collection of lightweight, summery, nautical feeling fabrics, perfect for sailing on in a summer breeze.

I had big plans to make a garment out of this fabric last year, and got 95% of the way through another project when I realized I had not paired it with the ideal pattern. I tried using it for Style Arc's Toni Designer Dress, but that pattern needs more drape than this airy fabric has. The side "wings" were particularly aeronautical in this fabric, so it sat in the naughty corner over the winter.

So I chopped up my mostly completed dress into this Craft Studio Tee, and it was perfect! Snatched this fabric back from the jaws of defeat!

I played with the stripe direction across the different quarters of the bodice, although I couldn't quite fit the back piece on the cross grain, so I had to piece it together. But the pieced look totally works here.

Can we discuss how well the stripes matched across the front and back sleeves? Totally unintentional, but totally delightful!

Pretty smitten with both of these tops! I will wear them tons with high waisted pants and skirts.

Paired here with my linen Glebe pants that I overdyed with indigo last May.
