Another sewing project for my sister!
A couple years ago I stayed with her for an extended period and saw that she was wearing a bathrobe that could, at best, be described as "ratty." I offered to make her a replacement robe, and she picked out some fabric from my stash next time she was at my house.
The fabric she chose was a beautiful, and perfect for the project cotton waffle that I had purchased from Stash. I bought it so long ago that Robin doesn't have this colorway ("petrol," a beautiful teal blue, perfect for my sister) in stock anymore, although she does have a remnant of a camel color up for grabs.
For a pattern, we decided on the Helen's Closet Arbutus Robe, which is a shawl collar robe pattern with an inner tie, belt loops and patch pockets.
For my sister, I opted for the same size I used for her with other Helen's Closet patterns (I've made her the Cameron Button Up a couple times, here and here) - size 10 at the shoulders and bust, graded to a 14 at the hip. This worked well. The Arbutus Robe is a generously sized pattern.
We went with View A, the longer length robe with full length sleeves. The sleeves have a deep cuff and are quite long.
Because of the thickness of the fabric, I opted to make the hanging loop and the inner ties out of some pretty bias tape from my stash. It also provided a pop of contrasting color on the inside.
Also a Kylie and the Machine label with the phrase my sister always says when I share a sewing/knitting/garden project with her! Ooh la la!
It looks pretty cute on her! I hope she'll get a ton of wear out of it. It's certainly a step up from her previous robe ;-)
