A little portable project bag from scraps!
I've been doing a lot of knitting recently to cope with the overwhelming stress of living in the U.S. right now and to curb doomscrolling a bit.
I went to a local knitting night for a bit of community, and was embarrassed to be carrying around my knitting WIP in a reusable grocery bag while others had cute little project bags.
This seemed like something I could easily fix.
I had been looking at the Lil Bucky Bag from Leila Makes, a free pattern for a round bottom bag with a drawstring lining, perfect for toting around little creative projects like knitting or crochet.
It's a fully-lined bucket bag with exterior and interior pockets, and a lining that cinches up at the top with a drawstring, and two short handles.
The bag came together so quickly. Just a couple hours of sewing, mostly rectangles with the exception of the round bottom piece, which was also quite easy to sew.
For fabrics, I went with two remnants from my stash:
For the exterior, waxed canvas (originally from Stash) leftover from the beautiful coat I made Tim last year.
For the lining, a scrap of lovely Japanese cotton barkcloth leftover from a Style Arc Adeline dress I made in 2017 when I still lived in Bangkok!
The bag is so cute and functional! I love how, in the waxed canvas, it stands tall and doesn't collapse on itself.
The only things I would try to figure out how to change next time is to alter the drawstring channel so the wrong side of the lining doesn't show, and to perhaps tack the lining down to the exterior at the base.
