Striped Ruby Overalls

My mom loved the overalls I made her for mother's day and I thought they looked great on her. So when she showed up at my house with a length of fabric from her stash and a plan to make another overalls pattern, one with a complicated tie closure that looked difficult for bathroom breaks, I convinced her that another pair of the Helen's Closet Ruby Overalls was a better bet.

Wearable Muslin: Liesl + Co Classic Shirt in Seersucker

I've really liked working with Liesl + Co patterns in the past, and I'm still on the hunt for the perfect basic buttondown, so I was pretty excited when she recently released the Classic Shirt.

Seersucker Ash Jumpsuit

The second I saw the line drawings for Willow and Co's Ash jumpsuit, way back months before the pattern was released, I knew I was going to get it.  So cute- I love the little halter top!  It's designed by Celina at Petit a Petit and Family.

Now that the patterns are out, I got my hands on it and I sewed one up for Zoe in some pink seersucker from Martha's stash.  I made the shorts version, although I think the pants version is pretty awesome, too.  I can also envision making the little halter top on its own in the future.

The pattern is a lot of pieces to keep track of, but everything's explained very well.  The only thing I might change for the next time I sew it up is to sew the elastic and waistband differently so the ends of the elastic are not forming lumps on the side seams, which could potentially be itchy.  I would sew the waistband pieces together in a circle, sew the side seams of the jumpsuit, then attach the waistband on top and insert the elastic.  Other than that, pretty straightforward and surprisingly quick despite all the pieces!

I can't wait to see it on her!

Blooming Geraniums

Or more accurately, bloomers and geraniums... Geranium dresses, that is!

I made two sets of bloomers (remember how cute my other bloomers were?) using the free pattern at See Kate Sew, along with two Little Geranium tops using the free pattern at Made by Rae.  One for Baby Dos and one for Baby Mr. Ben and Erin, both equally cute.

I used some awesome vintage pastel seersucker fabric that the Real Martha donated to my cause, and even though I made two full outfits out of it, I still have about yard left.

And one more set of bloomers, for good measure, from scrap fabric:

Romperoo

Another day, another baby romper.  This one made from some awesome yellow and multicolored striped seersucker from the Real Martha, made from the same pattern as the blue striped one I made a few months ago, Butterick B5625.

I made it in this gender-neutral fabric for Baby Dos, because until I checked Facebook this morning, it wasn't clear that Baby Dos was a girl.  She'll probably get all of Zoe's hand-me-downs, but here's a start for her own personal wardrobe.

Latest Toddler Duds

Duds in the sense of clothes, not in the sense of disappointments, although I am a little disappointed with the sleeves on the sweater below.

Kate requested more sweaters for Izzy, and after my success modifying the Super Natural Stripes pattern, I thought I would try it again.  The body seemed to come out ok, but for some reason the arms are kinda fat. Not sure what happened there.  Sorry, Izzy!  Lots of extra space for the gun show, I guess.

Well, despite the strangely large sleeves, the sweater is pretty cute thanks to these heart-shaped buttons that I got at Pasar Mayestik here in Jakarta:

Barbara, on the other hand, requested more pants for Andrew.  I had already made and sent him some Big Butt Baby Pants, so this time I decided to make him some regular sized butt pants.  I used the pants pattern that had used for Zoe's batik and plaid outfit, Simplicity 1894.  I used some cute cotton plaid and seersucker that I also got at Pasar Mayestik.  I hope Andrew likes the preppy look!

Not Meant to be Pajamas

So... when I started these little toddler play clothes, I did not intend for them to look like sleep wear.  Oops.

I used fabric that the Real Martha sent, a baby blue seersucker* printed with pink roses that is probably vintage 1970.  I accented the delicate fabric with some loud, hot pink bias tape that is definitely circa 1970, as it says so on the tag.

I used a pattern, also from the Real Martha, Butterick 4173**, as the basis for the dress (view C) and tank and shorts set (view A and D)...  however, I skipped the facings in favor of the bias tape.  I also skipped the ruffles, as I thought they were a little twee, but ultimately ended up adding my own twee bow to the dress when I realized how nightgown-y it was looking.  Not sure it helped.  Oh well!

* A story about seersucker: our cleaning lady, Mugi, who does our laundry twice a week (I know, life is hard), makes judgments on our clothing choices when putting our clean clothes away.  Specifically, she refuses to acknowledge that Tim's seersucker pants are not women's pants, putting them away in my drawer each time she washes them. Clearly seersucker is not a thing men wear here in Indonesia.

** I asked Tim which version of the Butterick 4173 pattern I should make... he couldn't answer except to say "Why are those little girls wearing make-up like they are going out to the clubs on the Jersey Shore?!"   He disapproves of Butterick's fashion drawing style choices:
