Seamwork Astoria x 2

It's been a while since I've sewn a Seamwork Astoria! Today I've got two for you:

I wear my original version of the Astoria pattern pretty regularly, and now it's almost 5 years old (??!!) and getting a bit pilly. I love the cropped style, though, for pairing with high-waisted pants and skirts...

I had a flash of genius and realized that I could probably squeeze Astoria sweaters out of some of the too-large-to-toss scraps I've kept from other projects. Namely: sewing leftovers.

The first is this thick, textured black double knit left over from my Cashmerette Rivermont dress, and the second is a thick, bright blue mystery knit left over from my Papercut Patterns Fjord cardigan

The black version came out a little bit, ahem, snug. The fabric is thick and has very good recovery- a bit different from the ponte I used for my original Astoria

The blue version, I sewed with slightly smaller seam allowances to give myself a bit more room after my black version turned out so tight. The fabric has more give, though, so it was less of an issue in the end, at least in the front.

The backs are super tight on both tops, with the shirt sinking into my back rolls... I'm ok with it, though, as I'll primarily wear these as a layer underneath a blazer or cardigan.

I'll get a lot of wear out of these Astoria tops! I wish I had sized up in these thick fabrics, but it's not going to stop me from wearing them on the regular. Here I paired them with my Tilly and the Buttons Arielle Skirt and my Sew Liberated Gypsum Skirt.
