When my mom was visiting me in Indonesia a few years ago, we went a bit crazy buying batiks for her to make a quilt. (Hilarious) evidence of our shopping spree below:
Last time I saw her we laid out the all the different pieces and identified one as an outlier. We decided that this pretty, albeit not very traditional, batik didn't quite fit in the quilt, but would make a lovely blouse. Something simple, so as not to break up the diagonal print.
Beatrix to the rescue!
I've had good luck with Beatrix and my mom has loved the Josephine blouse I made her earlier in the year, so we figured another Made by Rae pattern would be a good choice for her.
Construction details:
This Beatrix has 3/4 length sleeves and the shirttail hem. Pretty straightforward... Beatrix is really a great all-purpose blouse, perfect for displaying a pretty fabric!

ReplyDeleteThanks, Marci!
DeleteLooks like it fits great!
ReplyDeleteI love the way the light shines on her in the last pic too :-)
Thanks, Tasha! I was really pleased with how the fit turned out, too!
DeleteGreat color and fit - lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Donna!
DeleteI love it, and the simplified no-button version is intriguingly simple and wearable! And your mom looks happy. It may not fit in your quilt, but that fabric is truly lovely and stunning on her.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Inder! Yeah, I really like how it turned out without the button band. I was worried it would be boring, but I find it to be simple, but classy!
DeleteYour mom looks beautiful! I really like your fabric choice.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteWow, your mom looks lovely and the color really flatters her. The simple style seems well suited for the fabric and your mom. Bet she gets lots of wear, and compliment an out of it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! I hope she does get a compliment or two out of it!
DeleteThat is a lovely batik. Never thought to leave off the buttons -- I assume there is enough room to maneuver in and out??
ReplyDeleteThanks, Annie! Yep, after making the Beatrix for myself and realizing that the button back is more decorative than functional, I knew the pattern would work without it, no problems. It's a fairly loose fitting blouse, so it's not hard to pull it over your head.
DeleteThis looks so beautiful on your Mom! Love those colours and that print!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Heather!!
DeleteVery nice! It's good to know it works well without buttons. I don't like the feel of button bumps on my back!
