Pinstripe Paris Palazzo Pants. I love a bit of alliteration...
This is another project for Black History Month Pattern Designers challenge, a sewing challenge that highlights Black patten designers!
This pattern, the Made for Mermaids Paris Palazzo Pants, was designed by Aaronica B. Cole.
I had a bit of trouble figuring out which patterns were designed by her on the M4M website, but she has a running list on her Substack.
The pattern is a woven wide-leg palazzo pant with a 2 inch wide enclosed elastic waistband, an ultra high-rise, and in-seam pockets.
There are options for shorts, cropped, or full-length inseam, and a gathered side panel version.
I had this fabric in my stash that I picked up from a craft supply exchange at my office last year (thanks for organizing, Helen!), a pinstripe rayon challis.
I knew I wanted a simple wide leg pant without a lot of bells and whistles to show off the stripes. So I went with the simple full-length pants version of the Paris Palazzos. I opted for a 29 inch inseam.
The Paris pattern goes up to a hip size of 64 inches. I cut a size "yellow," which corresponds with a 47-49 inch hip. The fit it great, and as expected.
I love the in-seam pockets. They're anchored in the waistband and have that squared off cut-out opening that I find to be much neater than a classic in-seam.
I do wish the hem allowance was a bit deeper. It's only 1/2 inch. I like a deeper hem for that weighty swing.
I think I could stand to take these up another 1/2 - 1 inch if I'm going to wear them with flat sandals like this, so maybe I'll give myself a deeper hem!
I could see making this pattern again- such a fabulous basic that would look great n a variety of fabrics!
