 Another non-garment sewing project finished, fresh off the success of my scrappy quilted Christmas tree skirt: a rug!

Happy Feet Quilted Sneakers

 Recently I took a fun day-long workshop at a local-ish quilt shop, Quilter's Corner: quilted sneaker making!

Turns out it's difficult to take photos of shoes on your own feet!

Improv Quilted Jacket

This was such a fun and satisfying project! 

I pieced this jacket entirely from linen and linen-blend scraps from my previous sewing projects, and then I hand quilted it.

I'm a quilter now! 

Batik Quilted Placemats

Erin and Ben are leaving Jakarta (boo-urns!), so I made them a small going-away gift with a little bit of Indonesian flair.  

They recently had a new dining room table set made and Ben had remarked that they would need to start using placemats, so I decided to make them some from Indonesia's national fabric, batik.  

To make the placemats I used this tutorial, although rather than cut 2 18 x 13" pieces to serve as the front and back, I cut one 18 x 13" piece, one 15 x 13" and one 13 x 4" in a second fabric for each placemat. 

I also didn't quilt the whole placemat, but partially quilted each one differently, using the diagonal batik pattern as a stitch guide because the fabric was bunching up a bit as I quilted.

 

They came out pretty cute, I think!

Patchy, Scrappy Pillow

This was a fun project... no measuring, no cutting, just piecing and patching together random tiny scraps of fabric leftover from other projects (such as this long dormant quilt project from a few years ago.  I promise it shall return!).  I just sewed the little pieces together in strips and then sewed the strips together until I had a pretty big piece of fabric, trimmed the edges to a rectangle, and sewed it to a backing.  Turned it right-side-out, stuffed it (hence its slight lumpiness) and then did a terrible job making an invisible seam.  Boom.  Pillow.

The Real Martha will probably shudder as she reads that I didn't measure and she comprehends the imprecision of it all, but she'll get over it.

Bunny Quilt!

Chuck has been working on these season-by-season cross-stitched bunnies for Jamie for a couple years now... I've tried to chronicle her work, but I missed a few here and there. Today, though, I've got them all together in one place since Jamie recently turned them into a super-cute baby quilt... adorable!

Quilted Coasters

Chuck has been using her paycheck stubs as makeshift coasters for her bedside water glass. I thought she should have something a little classier.

She had an extra purple velvet curtain hanging around that had a hole in it, but was otherwise useable fabric, so I cut some strips out of it and sewed these simple quilted coasters, using directions provided by the other Martha. I used contrasting thread that matches Chuck's wall color. Pretty cute and very easy!

(Yes, they are crooked and uneven. Give me a break- I'm relatively new to sewing)

12 Days of Christmas Cross-stitched Quilt

For this 12 Days of Christmas quilt, Chuck did the cross-stitching, I helped Martha pick out the coordinating quilting fabric, and Martha pieced it together. It's still awaiting its batting, backing and binding, but it's looking really good so far!

We used the same quilting pattern that we used for the seashell quilt we made for Grandmother last year.

Quiltin' Corner

Not the best pic, but a completed and gifted baby quilt for one of Jamie's college roomie's third boy. . . it was the hit of the shower and as it was passed around all JL could think was "you better not get food on my quilt!"

Grandmother's Blue Work Quilt

An example of nouveau craftmanship courtesy of Meg and Chuck during vacation in Watch Hill, RI. It was a new craft for both and they did an awesome job. The best part was the long distance quilting lesson, sans photos. The finished product is great!

North Carolina quilt

Mile 1 of the marathon quilt...

I've finished 2 rows and started pinning in the in-between row to get a better sense of the big picture. This quilt is going to take forever, but it's going to be pretty cool when it's done!

New Quilting Fabric

This is the new fabric I got for the cathedral windows quilt that I'm making. This fabric will comprise the even-numbered rows of the quilt... I'm still trying to figure out how to take a photo of the (odd-numbered) row I've sewed so far. It's really long (the width of a king-sized quilt). Photos hopefully coming soon!
