You know your sewing obsession is infecting others around you when your husband comes back from a business trip with a piece of fabric and says "So... I saw this fabric and thought you might be able to make me a shirt from it?"
On his last trip to Jakarta, Tim picked up this gorgeous, modern, handmade batik from Sejauh Mata Memandang... a deep indigo with little irregular squares. Good taste!
Unshockingly, I went with my go-to shirt pattern for Tim, McCall's 6044, the short sleeved version. Nothing new to say on this TNT pattern!
I assembly line sewed this shirt along with his fish shirt, so it went together pretty quickly.
Lucky for me, the piece of batik Tim bought was pretty big, so there is plenty left over for me to make something for myself! I haven't decided exactly what yet...
Tim definitely likes his shirt. Since I made it a few months ago, he's worn it like 10 times!
This really made me smile, I was just thinking umm I would have liked that for myself when I read further you have some left over. You should send him away more often, obviously has great taste in fabric.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, true! I have trained him well. ;-)
DeleteExcellent taste in fabrics! I'm still searching for a TNT shirt pattern for my tall husband. Do you know for what height McCalls menswear is drafted? (Can't find it on their site) I don't mind making adjustments but it's so helpful to know the starting point. I really like all M6044 shirts you made for Tim!
ReplyDeleteFound it! It says "MEN’S: For men of average build; about 5'10" (177 cm) height." They also have some finished measurements, including "Back length from base of your neck," which helps, I guess. Look at the tab that says "yardage": https://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6044
DeleteThanks! Hmmm, 177 cm certainly isn't the average Dutch height!
DeleteI agree! My husband is 190 cm. I also have a son of 199 cm and a son of 207 cm. Very difficult to find appropriate patterns.
DeleteBut I love your post, Meg, as always! xxx
Apparently you grow them tall over there!! ;-) Hmm... does Burda draft for a taller man? I haven't really looked into it much.
DeleteA man who has great taste in fabric - a keeper!
ReplyDeleteYep!!
DeleteLucky you, lucky him.
ReplyDelete;-)
DeleteAH...how awesome is this! The shirt! The SHOPPER!!
ReplyDeleteHe does have good taste and you have mad skillz! I will have to check out this pattern for my husband. I think the fit is really excellent!
It's a great pattern- we had to play with the fit a teeny bit to get it how it he likes it, but it was really just grading between sizes (L shoulders, between M and L from the underarm down and for the sleeves).
DeleteGosh. What a great man. Love that he not only buys fabric, but decent fabric too! Great shirt.
ReplyDeleteThanks! He definitely has good taste! ;-)
DeleteI love that he bought the fabric!!! Great shirt.
ReplyDeleteWish there was a simple love button to push.
ReplyDeleteI love how your husband be playing he's so low key into sewing... but when he starts snagging fabric for himself, he's definitely caught the bug! LOL
ReplyDeleteHa! My boys do that too! My youngests' most common refrain is, so, you can make me a shirt today, right? This batik makes such a perfect casual shirt. It's hard to find good shirtings sometimes, so batik seems like a smart alternative to classic stripes and plaids!
