Quilted Toaster Sweater #2

Sooo... I made this last minute birthday gift for my good friend who lives across the country and it didn't fit her. But it fit me!

I thought she might like a version of the Sew House Seven Toaster Sweater 2 like the black quilted one I made myself last year. I made one for her in the light grey colorway, though.

Remember I said I had approximately 87 yards of this quilted knit from Joann?! They seem to have it back in stock these days if you want to get your hands on some (although why would you ever buy it from their website based on those photos?!).

She sent me her full bust measurement and it was similar to mine, so I threw caution to the wind and made her a version exactly like mine: size XL with a 1" full bicep adjustment and sleeves shortened by 1.5".

I had an inkling that it might not work for her because we have very different proportions, but figured that, as a backup, I would definitely wear it, so I might as well try!

It was so last-minute that I hand-sewed the neckline down on the plane to California... bad friend:

Sure enough, the fit was no good for her. Shoulders too wide, arms too loose and long. Ah well, a good (albeit last minute) try.

Simultaneously disappointing to not have made something that works for my friend, but exciting for me since I love the Toaster Sweater so. I put it on the next day and have worn it 4 times in the week or so since!

I'm still working out what to make for her as a replacement. Something that doesn't require a ton of fitting since she lives across the country from me. Maybe something that hangs open like the Helen's Closet Blackwood Cardigan. We shall see.

In the meantime, I'll probably rock this Toaster Sweater weekly from now until next April!
