Tropical Fran Pajamas

POV: you're my neighbor and you catch me wandering in my garden in my pajamas with a coffee, checking on the incremental progress of my cucumbers, harvesting a handful of cherry tomatoes and spying on the sleepy, pollen-drunk bees in the squash blossoms.

You might remember that I made a gorgeous pair of Closet Core Patterns Fran Pajamas for my sister last year

I've been yearning for a pair for myself since then. I'm aiming to look a little bit more presentable when we have houseguests or when I'm sauntering through the garden!

The Closet Core Patterns Fran Pajamas pattern comes in alpha sizing. I went with a size 1X, which worked well. Pleasantly oversized.

I made the Closet Core Carolyn Pajamas (almost 10 years ago!), and didn't end up loving them. Although they looked nice, there wasn't enough ease for me; they just weren't comfortable! The ease in the Fran Pajamas is perfect for my needs.

The Fran Pajamas pattern has some lovely tailored details, but it's still slouchy and comfy enough for sleeping. I love the deep pleat at the back of the top, the deep hems on the pants, and the deep cuffs on the sleeve. I like deep, apparently.

The fabric I used for my Fran pajamas is an incredibly soft and almost silky feeling cotton (maybe a cotton blend?) fabric that I got at secondhand craft store Make and Mend when I was in the Boston area this spring.

A gorgeous tropical plant print in shades of minty green with pops of yellow, orange and pink. Very fun!

I *think* the fabric might be a bed top sheet. It was twice as wide as typical garment fabric, and had a deep hem on one end. But the massive piece was perfect for the Fran Pajamas, I just needed to be a bit creative with cutting because the fabric was so large and hard to manipulate on my cutting table!

For finishes, on the pants I installed some grommets for the drawstring exits, and the drawstring itself is commercial bias tape folded lengthwise and stitched.

The buttons are these fun, minty square buttons I bought at my favorite button stall at Chatuchak Market in Bangkok when I lived there.

I'm loving these pajamas! The Fran pajamas are definitely a classier look than the PJ pants and ratty t-shirt I normally wear. Hopefully a little bit more presentable for my garden jaunts!
